Officials from the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB), in partnership with Department of Trade Industry and Competition (DTIC), conducted an awareness campaign in Rode location, eMaxesibeni, last week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They conducted an awareness campaign with the aim of promoting responsible alcohol consumption and enforcing compliance with trading conditions among liquor traders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the spokesperson for ECLB, Siya Mgwebi, the campaign followed reports of increasing cases of alcohol abuse and non-compliance among liquor traders in that area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCommunities report growing cases of inconsiderate trading in the area, including the mushrooming of illegal liquor outlets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe campaign was also intended to educate communities about responsible alcohol consumption and visiting liquor outlets to check compliance with the trading conditions,\u201d said Msiya. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He confirmed that they were doing this with inspectors from DTIC, SAPS and the Gambling Board. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said if they are informed about taverns who do not comply with the rules they will give the owner a compliance notice and monitor the situation for 30 days, adding that if after the 30 days the owner still failed to follow the rules, they would suspend the licence of that particular tavern.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
