The Eastern Cape Department of Health has committed to
\npaying overtime claims of forensic pathology services workers by September 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The commitment comes after senior management met with NEHAWU
\nleaders on Wednesday evening to ensure workers go back to working overtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though the Department committed at the meeting that the
\noutstanding overtime claims would be paid by September 7, Nehawu leaders
\nstressed that no agreement would be reached until the union got a mandate from
\nits members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department received the thumbs up from the Department of
\nPublic Service and Administration (DPSA) to pay the overtime claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The approval was sought because all overtime claims above
\n30% above salaries must be approved by the DPSA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting HoD Msulwa Daca told union leaders that the matter is
\nbeing treated with urgency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department will investigate the cause of this delay and
\nput measures in place to prevent future delays in the payment of
\novertime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another meeting has been called for Monday afternoon, August
\n28. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nehawu-affiliated workers stopped working overtime,
\ndemanding their claims be immediately paid, a move that has resulted in a delay
\nin collecting bodies in parts of the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until the matter has been resolved, the Department will
\ncontinue with its contingency measures that are in place to ensure services do
\nnot grind to a halt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
