The Centane Regional Magistrate\u2019s Court has sentenced Khanyile Thubeni (38) to undergo 25 years imprisonment for the
\nrape of a 10-year-old girl. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sentenced was handed down on August 30,
\n2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allegations were that the victim was coming from the
\nplayground with her siblings during April 2021 at Qolora Village, Centane when
\nthey were called by the accused. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accused told them to wait for their father who had
\ngone to fetch livestock from the grazing field. They stayed with the accused
\ntill late and fell asleep and the accused raped the victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA case of rape was opened at Centane police station
\nand later transferred to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and
\nSexual Offences Unit (FCS) for investigation. The accused was subsequently found
\nguilty of rape and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment,\u201d said police
\nspokesperson Captain Siphiokazi Mawisa <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amathole District acting police head Brigadier
\nNgangema Xakavu welcomed the sentence handed to the 38-year-old man. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI hope the sentencing will send a strong message to
\nall those who abuse vulnerable women and children that they will be dealt with
\nby the law,\u201d said Xakavu.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an unrelated case, the Centane Regional
\nMagistrate\u2019s Court has, on August 30, also sentenced Khayalethu Nikisi (47) to
\n15 years behind bars following his conviction for rape of a 10-year-old girl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident took place on April 24, 2016, when the
\nvictim was at her home during the night when she was taken outside by her
\nmother\u2019s boyfriend and raped her at nearby bushes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Butterworth FCS unit investigated the case and
\nsecured successful conviction of Nikisi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
