The South African
\nPolice Service (SAPS) management in the Eastern Cape has expressed shock at yet
\nanother violent incident which erupted yesterday, September 19, in Majola
\nAdministrative Area in Port St Johns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police have
\nconfirmed a shooting incident was reported to have taken place in the area
\nwhile four homesteads were also torched in the latest eruption of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring the
\nshooting, it is alleged that a 22-year-old man sustained bullet wounds on the
\nupper body and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. A case of
\nattempted murder and arson were opened for further investigation,\u201d said
\nprovincial police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kinana added that
\nthe circumstances surrounding the incidents are currently under investigations
\nwhich are ongoing, and no arrests had been made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latest
\neruption of violence in the area comes less than a month after government and
\npolice held a community engagement to calm tensions in the area on August 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The community
\nengagement came after two elderly men were shot dead while 18 homesteads were
\ntorched in the same area last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe wanted to
\nassure affected communities that police management will soon operationalize
\ntheir plan to address these sporadic incidents. We also urge communities to
\nwork with the police, especially when it comes to reporting of criminal
\nactivities,\u201d Eastern Cape police commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli
\nMene was quoted as saying at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cause of the
\nsporadic acts of violence remains unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
