Diverse nations converged at Lwandlolubomvu Great Place in Ntabankulu, joining thousands of AmaMpondo from various parts of South Africa, as they celebrated their culture and heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the chairperson of the Mpondo Culture and Heritage Council, Nkosi Jongilanga Sigcau, the Mpondo Culture and Heritage Festival has taken place annually since 2006. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that it promotes, shares and preserves Mpondo culture and heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that this was their first event after the ending of their mourning period for the late King Zanozuko Sigcau. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that this is commonly known as Umphanda<\/span> month in isiMpondo language, and it is reported that, according to the ancient calendar, this was the amaMpondo\u2019s first month of the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe event was preceded by the Mpondo reed dance, where Mpondo maidens from various parts of the kingdom were joined by maidens from the Ndebele kingdom and Pedi maidens from Limpopo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Nkosi Libandla Mabhena, of the Ndebele kingdom, led a delegation of 150 people including chiefs, chieftains, princesses and members of the Ndebele community,\u201d said Sigcau. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He added that Nkosi Serake Mampuru, of the Pedi kingdom, led a delegation of 100 people, including maidens and traditional dancers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He added that artists from Botswana and Turkey also formed part of this year\u2019s performances and exhibitions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGuests were also treated to Mpondo traditional food, site visits, including Magwa falls, Mbotyi, to
