{"id":48612,"date":"2022-09-22T16:38:33","date_gmt":"2022-09-22T14:38:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/bogus-psychologist-sentenced-for-killing-his-mother-20220922\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T23:30:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T21:30:50","slug":"bogus-psychologist-sentenced-for-killing-his-mother-20220922","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/bogus-psychologist-sentenced-for-killing-his-mother-20220922\/","title":{"rendered":"Sterkspruit man convicted of killing mother, sentenced to life in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Sterkspruit Regional Court has sentenced Nathaniel Molefe Kosie (42) to life plus 29 years imprisonment, after convicting him on charges related to the killing of his mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali said the court sentenced Kosie, who used to run an office as a bogus industrial psychologist in Sterkspruit and Gauteng, to life for murder, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, and seven years for each of the counts of defeating the administration of justice and fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn August 19, 2018, Kosie asked permission from the parents of his receptionist to go with the latter to an after-hour consultation at the nearby Herchel village. They left with the receptionist in the evening in Kosie\u2019s car and he drove to a place called Colville where his mother resided,\u201d said Tyali. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kosie is said to have left the receptionist in the car with his second cellphone whilst he went to his purported client. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe took about two hours before returning, driving his mother\u2019s car. Kosie had instructed the receptionist to drive his car following him and ensuring no car would drive in between them. They were driving at high speed. On reaching his place of residence, he thanked the receptionist and left.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following day Kosie went home, where on arrival he claimed to have discovered his mother killed, her car and TV set stolen. He called the police and made his statement regarding what he claimed to have discovered, Tyali added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA few days after the incident, the deceased\u2019s car was found abandoned near a bus rank in Sterkspruit town, with a TV set in the boot. Once the receptionist learnt that the deceased was killed and the car robbed, he approached the police telling them that the car never stolen but had been driven there by his boss, Kosie. His fingerprints were found on the TV.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the trial, Kosie pleaded not guilty. State Advocate Loyiso Methuso led the evidence of 11 witnesses, including his receptionist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe evidence was circumstantial, except on the fraud charge, but the state successfully convinced the court beyond a reasonable doubt that the only inference was that the accused planned to kill his mother and thereafter robbed her of her car and Tv set.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tyali further added that Kosie had&nbsp; lied to the police stating that he found his mother dead and did not know his killers, \u201cKosie also admitted some incriminating facts during the cross-examination which led to the court being satisfied that he was guilty of fraud as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions, Barru Madolo commended the prosecution and investigative team, led by Colonel Nobesuthu Dinga for their meticulous collection and presentation of evidence that secured the desired punishment for crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-issued-by-the-national-prosecuting-authority\"><strong>\u2013 ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL PROSECUTING AUTHORITY<\/strong><\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Sterkspruit Regional Court has sentenced Nathaniel Molefe Kosie (42) to life plus 29 years imprisonment, after convicting him on charges related to the killing of his mother.
