{"id":48590,"date":"2022-09-27T17:28:54","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T15:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/ec-prosecutor-released-on-bail-after-arrest-on-rape-allegations-20220927\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T23:34:13","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T21:34:13","slug":"ec-prosecutor-released-on-bail-after-arrest-on-rape-allegations-20220927","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/ec-prosecutor-released-on-bail-after-arrest-on-rape-allegations-20220927\/","title":{"rendered":"Eastern Cape prosecutor released on bail after arrest on rape allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Eastern Cape district court prosecutor, Manzolwandle Xhanti Nkubungu (33) appeared in the Mthatha Magistrates\u2019 Court today, September 27, on charges of rape.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court granted him R3 500 bail, with strict conditions and postponed the case to November 4 this year when he will be joined by his co-accused, Ntuthuzelo Tsotetsi Tsotso (37).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case emanates from a December 28, 2021, incident during which a 23-year-olduniversity student was allegedly sexually assaulted while sleeping at the prosecutor\u2019s house, after a night out.&nbsp;Tsotso was arrested soon after the matter was reported to the police, after he was linked to the alleged crime. He was released on R3 500 bail.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further investigations have since linked Nkubungu, which led to his arrest on Monday, September 26, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe NPA views this case, which falls in the realm of gender-based violence, in a very serious light and has commenced internal labour relations processes against the Komani-based prosecutor.&nbsp; The enrolment of this case against one of our own is a clear indication that if there is enough evidence of a commission of crime against anyone, the NPA will prosecute without fear favour or prejudice,\u201d said National
