Brian Matlala (40), suspected of being involved in a post office robbery in Dutywa briefly
\nappeared before the Dutywa Magistrate\u2019s Court today, October 24. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali stating the matter was postponed until October 31, 2022, for bail application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe is
\ncharged with three counts, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession
\nof firearm and attempted murder,\u201d said Tyali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said that it is alleged that on
\nOctober 21, 2022, at around 08:30, police members who were on routine patrol foiled
\na robbery at Dutywa police office. Kinana said a shootout ensued between
\nmembers and at least three armed men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTwo suspects manged to escape and
\none-armed suspect who was trapped inside allegedly held nine employees at
\ngunpoint. Back-up arrived with a police negotiator who successfully
\nnegotiated for the release of the nine employees,\u201d said Kinana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that Matlala
\neventually surrendered and was detained on charges of business robbery,
\nkidnapping with an additional charge of an unlicensed firearm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe seized firearm
\nis to be sent for ballistic investigation. Police are following all leads and
\nare urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect
\nto contact 082 301 7762.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
