This is the same belief that poetry book author, Anathi Kom (19), from Msobomvu Township in Butterworth, hopes to instil through a collection of inspirational and hope-igniting poems, contained in her recently published book, The Tree of Life<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The book was published in May this year, after Kom won a publishing sponsorship for her poetry writing acumen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She says the book is proof that someone\u2019s background and life challenges should not be a stumbling block to attaining their dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI come from a poor background, having lost my mother when I was eight years old and grew up with my grandmother since then. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe greatest battle I\u2019ve fought in life was being sexually abused but I have learnt to forgive, let go and move on from that experience,\u201d Kom says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy book aims to heal souls, ignite hope and teach people about the importance of forgiving, letting go and moving forward. I believe there is power in starting afresh,\u201d adds Kom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She says her poetry writing passion started in 2011, at Lamplough High School in Butterworth after she wrote a poem about the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy teachers were quite impressed by the poem and encouraged me to take my poetry writing skills seriously and I have never looked back since then,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kom, a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture student at the University of Fort Hare, says her book, with 44 poems, is available from her directly at R160 per copy.
