{"id":48117,"date":"2022-12-08T12:08:59","date_gmt":"2022-12-08T10:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/wsu-student-crowned-miss-universities-sa-20221206\/"},"modified":"2025-03-21T00:03:26","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T22:03:26","slug":"wsu-student-crowned-miss-universities-sa-20221206","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/wsu-student-crowned-miss-universities-sa-20221206\/","title":{"rendered":"Walter Sisulu University student crowned Miss Universities SA"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Walter Sisulu University\u2019s Buffalo City campus third-year mechanical engineering student, Chumasande Somazembe (25), strutted and charmed her way to ultimate glory after being crowned \u201cQueen Majesty\u201d at this year\u2019s edition of the Miss Universities of South Africa Pageant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Somazembe breezed through the initial prejudging phase on Saturday, November 26, before outclassing the competition during the crowning finale at the Blue Waters Hotel in Durban, on November 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still out of words, and to be honest it hasn\u2019t yet sunk in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited about the journey ahead and most importantly, the friendships I\u2019ve created, which I trust will prove valuable and fruitful in my life,\u201d she said shortly after the crowning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her experience in the beauty pageant industry is extensive, and so is the collection in her trophy cabinet. Since entering Miss Kuyasa Uniform Junior as a nervous 15-year-old Grade 8 learner in 2012, she has amassed over 50 titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was also a runner-up in Miss WSU 2021\/2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Somazembe\u2019s triumph will see her walking away with a cool R20 000 \u2013 a cash incentive, aimed at helping her start on her own or supplement her pre-existing business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Miss Universities competition, however, was very special to me as it aligns with my dreams, hopes and aspirations of growing my foundation, called Inyembezana, which is aimed at changing the situation of young people and empowering them to be change agents who are ready to change society for the better,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day\u2019s festivities proved quite fruitful for WSU, with one of its other entrants, Mthatha Campus\u2019s Anesipho Dyosi, walking away with the Miss Universities of South Africa \u201cQueen\u201d accolade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6
