A DAUGHTER has no choice but to carry her wheelchair-bound mother on her back to get to a vehicle, because of the poor condition of the road next to her home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zikhona Makhuba, from Langeni locality in Libode, appealed on social media to anyone who can assist in fixing the road so that it could be easier for her mother, Khuselwa Makhuba (52), to use her wheelchair when going to hospital for check-ups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is alleged that Makhuba was shot in 2021 while driving her taxi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe became paralysed and now depends on a wheelchair. The problem is that when it is raining it is hard for her to use it to the main road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur access road is not in good condition at all. During rainy days I am forced to put her on my back when taking her to the vehicle,\u201d said Zikhona. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said she slipped and fell twice while carrying her, recently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Zikhona, during the last fall, she fell on her mother\u2019s leg while carrying her on her back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat was very painful to me because she is still complaining about this leg. If we had a proper access road, definitely the car would pick her up next to our home.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mayor for Nyandeni Local Municipality, Councillor Viwe Ndamase, said he saw Zikhona\u2019s plea on social media, and immediately sent a message. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSubsequently, I arranged that we meet so that she can take me to her house for the inspection of the access to it. There is a tar road nearby but unfortunately it does not help in accessing her house. The access to her house is in the radius of about 100m,\u201d said Ndamase. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that he has since tasked the Municipal Engineering Department to see what can be done to bring a lasting solution to the Makhubas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
