Founder and director of Mandelwa Creative Pty Ltd, Pumeza Macingwane, says that they are working hard to promote reading, and to ensure that people and learners tell their stories in different ways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To ensure that they fulfil their mission, they will be hosting a Mandelwa Libali Literary Festival in Mount Frere in September. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this festival we are inviting learners from Mount Frere and the surrounding schools to submit their poems or short stories. The learners may also enter in both sections.\n<\/div>\n

She added that they are also working with other organisations in this initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, they also had a road trip from Gqeberha to Mount Frere last year, where they donated books to some of the schools. She confirmed that they also donated books at James Kobi Primary School and Qunu Primary School in Mthatha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are worried because the statistics are saying that some of the learners who are doing Grade 4 are unable to read, and it is hard for them to understand essays. By hosting this festival we are making sure that we are reaching even the schools that are in deep rural areas. For now we are still a new organisation that is still growing, but we are hoping that one day we will be able to hand out libraries.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said that those learners who might be interested to enter this competition can submit manuscripts via email to admin@mandelwa.africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are also welcome to call or WhatsApp 083 349 6786 or 071 549 0572 if they require more information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ten winning learners will receive R500 each. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learners from Grades 6 to 10 can make submissions, and they must use Xhosa or English. They should submit their original work, that has not been published before, and short stories must have 500 to 2 500 words. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
