Zingisa Comprehensive High School principal, Nomonde Matyumza, has hailed learner, Avile Nkcita (14), as a hero, after she secured books, computers, and much-needed renovations to the dilapidated school library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upgraded school library, with new supplies of textbooks and six computers, was handed over to the school by the Nelson Mandela Museum on International Nelson Mandela Day, on Tuesday, July 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This after Nkcita had approached the Nelson Mandela Museum chief executive, Vuyani Booi ,in March this year, asking him to intervene by mobilising resources for a library at her new school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I arrived to learn at Zingisa Comprehensive High School in January this year, I realised that the school did not have a library, which was something I was looking forward to experiencing as a high school learner,\u201d said Nkcita, who had been crowned Little Miss South Africa last year, while still a learner at Faith Primary School, and had to do community upliftment work as part of her duties for winning the pageant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSince my advocacy work as Little Miss South Africa winner involved community development and empowerment of young people, I approached the Nelson Mandela Museum to assist me in my work through the donation of the library,\u201d said Nkcita, who is currently doing Grade 8 at Zingisa Comprehensive High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She further thanked the Nelson Mandela Museum for the positive response to her request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAvile, sometime in March this year, came to my office telling me that she would like to contribute to the society as a winner of Miss Little South Africa. She specifically asked me to help build a library for her school, and because this is something we usually do to celebrate International Mandela Day we immediately mobilised resources to fulfil her request,\u201d said Nelson Mandela Museum chief executive, Vuyani Booi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matyumza said that Avile\u2019s selfless heroics would not only benefit her, but also all the learners at the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur library had old and outdated textbooks, lacked proper furniture, and had no electronic equipment such as computers. The intervention by the Nelson Mandela Museum and Avile will add value to the quality education that the school strives to offer to the learners,\u201d said Matyumza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upgraded library was officially handed over to the school by th Sport, Arts and Culture minister, Zizi Kodwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
