ONE of the biggest women\u2019s football tournaments was officially launched last week in Mthatha, as part of uplifting women\u2019s football and fighting gender-based violence across South Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Grantmakers Soccer Cup was played as part of Grantmakers Annual Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Grantmakers Annual Day was designed to honour grantmakers who played a huge role in the community, and includes many activities such as awards, exhibitions and sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme is led by Nkosi Nkululeko Nxesi, who is the founder of Community Development Zone (PTY).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe overall goal of the Grantmakers Annual Day is to create and reserve a day that honours the work and contribution of all the institutions and individuals that are making financial and material contributions and donations towards community development and charitable work in South Africa,\u201d said Nkosi Nxesi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The soccer cup is expected to continue each and every year in August, as part of commemorating National Women\u2019s Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every August each participating Grantmakers\/Donor\/CSI program-me support will bring a women\u2019s soccer team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is to give Grantmakers\/Donor\/CSI\u2019s an opportunity to contribute in the development of women\u2019s soccer in the country and fight gender-based violence.\u201d said Nxesi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This event is the first of its kind, and will be organised on an annual basis, and its main goal is to promote women\u2019s football and appreciate the work that is done by community development projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s Grantmakers Soccer Cup was held at Marambeni Sports Ground in Mthatha West, and Mthatha Super Star\u2019s Ladies were crowned champions of this year\u2019s first edition after winning 2\u20130 against JYA Ladies during the official launch of the Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
