{"id":46271,"date":"2023-10-05T13:25:58","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T11:25:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/khulani-boxing-club-celebrates-27-years-20231003\/"},"modified":"2025-03-21T08:01:25","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T06:01:25","slug":"khulani-boxing-club-celebrates-27-years-20231003","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/khulani-boxing-club-celebrates-27-years-20231003\/","title":{"rendered":"Khulani Boxing Club celebrates 27 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Khulani Boxing Club celebrated its 27-year milestone this past Saturday, September 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of these celebrations, they organised an amateur boxing tournament at Ngangelizwe location, where more than 20 boxers competed, showcasing their skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simphiwe Konco is one of the boxers groomed by Khulani Boxing Club. He joined the club at the age of 13, while attending Senior Primary School in Ngangelizwe location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Khulani Boxing club was established by the legendary Mthetho Dumezweni, who was the first coach to win a gold medal in the national championships in KwaZulu-Natal in 2006, for the Eastern Cape Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, in 2007 he led the senior team to the championship and won overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Viwe Mdletyeni, the current secretary of OR Tambo Boxing Club, was also groomed by the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The champions, Athenkosi Dumezweni, Sikho \u201cSequence\u201d Nqothole, and Bangile Nyangani, are also among the Khulani Boxing Club products, and today they are based in Gauteng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dumezweni said that he is proud of the work and club\u2019s achievements since it was established.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis club has played a big role in shaping the future of boxers,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn 2005 I took Sikho Nqothole and Bangile Nyangani to the senior team, and we became the provincial champions after a long time, beating East London boxers,\u201d said Dumezweni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that the current leaders need to pull up their socks to support sport, stating that sport is dying in the province because of neglect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSport is the only tool to produce leaders for tomorrow, build sports grounds and swimming pools so that young children can have choices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Images\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_d722dfbe\">\n<div
