\nMajor General Pumzile Cetyana, commended the sentencing in the Mthatha Regional
\nCourt on Monday, May 13, where a Mandela Park resident received two life
\nsentences and an additional 20 years\u2019 imprisonment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The individual was convicted for
\nthe prolonged sexual assault of his girlfriend\u2019s minor daughter, a series of
\nabuses that took place over several years in their one-bedroom apartment in
\nMandela Park, typically when the mother was not present. Additionally, he raped a
\n13-year-old girl who visited their home, with the assaults taking place in
\nDecember 2020 and January 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police spokesperson,
\nCaptain Welile Matyolo, during 2014, while the accused was staying with his
\ngirlfriend and her nine-year-old daughter in a one-roomed flat in Mandela Park,
\nhe sexually assaulted the child when her mother was not at home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matyolo said his actions continued
\nuntil 2018 when he thought that the victim was old enough to be raped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thereafter, he raped her and
\nthreatened her to keep quiet about his crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDuring 2020, the second
\nvictim, who was 13 years old at the time, visited them in Mandela Park in
\nDecember for a vacation when she too, was raped in January 2021,\u201d Matyolo concluded.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, the first victim reported
\nthe sexual abuse to her mother, who immediately reported the matter to the
\npolice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accused was arrested and
\nremained in custody until the finalisation of the case. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, May
\n13, the rapist was sentenced as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Count 1: Sexual assault \u2013 10
\nyears imprisonment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Count 2: Rape \u2013 Life
\nimprisonment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Count 3: Sexual assault \u2013 10
\nyears imprisonment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Count 4: Rape \u2013 Life
\nimprisonment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other sentences will run
\nconcurrently with the two life sentences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major General Cetyana has praised
\nthe outstanding investigation by the investigating officer, D\/Sgt Matolonke
\nDanisa, in ensuring that perpetrators who exploit children are incarcerated and
\nsent to jail for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
