The Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crime Court convicted Lindeka Patricia Ntlokwinendaba (41) for charges of fraud on Wednesday, May 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said that she is remanded in custody for the social worker\u2019s pre-sentence report and will be sentenced on June 4. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that this is after a joint venture by the Hawk\u2019s Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and Old Mutual Insurance Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNtlokwinendaba insured the deceased, Mfunxuse Golden Mvinqi with old Mutual as her stepfather whereas he was not. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe deceased has since passed on, on June 21, 2018, and Ntlokwinendaba processed the death benefits under the pretext that she was the stepdaughter to the deceased. An amount of R20 000 was successfully paid by Old Mutual to the claimant. Later, Old Mutual during the auditing phase scrutinised the claim submitted by Ntlokwinendaba and established that she was only a friend to the deceased\u2019s niece and not his daughter,\u201d said Mgolodela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She further added that, it was discovered that no contributions were made by Ntlokwinendaba towards the deceased\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOld Mutual reported the matter to Mthatha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks in November 2020 for extensive probing which culminated in the arrest of Ntlokwinendaba on July 13, 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She appeared shortly in Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crime Court where she was released on a warning the very same day of her arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
