{"id":295676,"date":"2026-02-21T10:05:31","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T08:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/doctor-released-on-r5000-bail-after-alleged-rape-at-surgery\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T10:09:34","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T08:09:34","slug":"doctor-released-on-r5000-bail-after-alleged-rape-at-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/doctor-released-on-r5000-bail-after-alleged-rape-at-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctor released on R5,000 bail after alleged rape at surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>KOMANI, Eastern Cape<\/strong> &#8211; A 42-year-old medical doctor has been released on R5,000 bail after being arrested in connection with an alleged rape in Komani earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Phiwe Jetro Jafta was arrested by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit during the early hours of Wednesday, 18 February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police spokesperson Yolisa Mgolodela said in a statement that the arrest followed a complaint reported to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAccording to the information, it is alleged that on Wednesday, 11 February a 22-year-old victim went to donate toddler\u2019s clothing at the doctor\u2019s surgery for his foundation,\u201d said Mgolodela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said the doctor allegedly inspected the donated items and then offered the complainant a free full body examination as a token of appreciation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe victim reportedly agreed and the examination commenced. The victim alleged that as the doctor proceeded with the examination she was surprised when the doctor jumped over her and forced himself on her,\u201d Mgolodela said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The complainant further alleged that she was instructed not to scream because there were patients in the surgery at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter the ordeal, the victim further alleged that she was given a voucher to buy a morning-after pill as everything happened without a condom,\u201d Mgolodela added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The matter was reported to Mlungisi SAPS and subsequently handed over to Komani FCS for further investigation, which led to the arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jafta appeared in the Komani Magistrate\u2019s Court on 18 February, where he was granted bail of R5,000 with conditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is expected back in in court on 30 April, pending further investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>District Commissioner Rudolph Adolph urged investigators to thoroughly probe the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvestigators must leave no stone unturned for justice to be served.
