{"id":294976,"date":"2026-01-01T15:02:15","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T13:02:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/?p=294976"},"modified":"2026-01-01T15:04:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-01T13:04:04","slug":"watch-two-suspects-arrested-over-east-london-assault-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/mthathaexpress\/watch-two-suspects-arrested-over-east-london-assault-video\/","title":{"rendered":"WATCH: Two suspects arrested over East London assault video"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>EAST LONDON <\/strong>&#8211; Two suspects were arrested today, 1 January 2026 in connection with a viral video depicting the assault of a security guard at Ebuhlanti Marina Glen in East London, the South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regional SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said, &#8220;The suspects face charges of common assault and are expected to appear in court soon.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) revealed that a more serious case of Assault with Intent to Do Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) has been opened with police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The municipality strongly condemned the attack in a statement, describing the video as &#8220;disturbing&#8221; and showing &#8220;motorists attacking the guard whilst on duty.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"560\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">East London: car guard assaulted after he asked he asked these men to move their car. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6wyujkcHS8\">pic.twitter.com\/6wyujkcHS8<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Yusuf Abramjee (@Abramjee) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Abramjee\/status\/2006337212984811669?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 31, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>BCMM said the suspects were believed to be driving a vehicle without registration plates at the time of the incident, making immediate tracing difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is a serious criminal offence and will not be tolerated under any circumstances,&#8221; the municipality stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gantana added that the investigation remains active, with further arrests likely. No further information can be shared about this matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, applauded the swift response of law enforcement officers in effecting the arrests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BCMM called upon community members with information about the suspects&#8217; identity or whereabouts to contact East London Police Station or the nearest SAPS office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The municipality issued a stern warning to visitors, &#8220;Come and enjoy our city responsibly.
