Khulani Sikhosana, founder of the Vuka Darkie Foundation and an author based in East Rand, Johannesburg, has published a book titled Ubuntu Economy (African Spiritual Economy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The book explores the significance of integrating indigenous knowledge systems and African spirituality in the pursuit of economic prosperity. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sikhosana stated that Africans need an economic and spiritual programme tailored to their unique context. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is a well-researched body of work. Over the past few years, I have travelled across the Southern African region, interviewing custodians of African knowledge to source primary indigenous information of spiritual and economic value for the benefit of readers,” he said. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The book also addresses the spiritual repression of Africans by foreign religious invaders through the introduction of anti-African spirituality acts, which have caused African spirituality to be wrongly equated with being “demonic” and “barbaric.” \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It provides an overview of our indigenous cultural economy, shedding light on untapped economic opportunities within our cultural practices. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The book highlights how we can leverage our rich and diverse cultural products and services \u2013 the Creative Economy \u2013 to build intergenerational wealth that will endure,” Sikhosana explained. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, he stressed the importance of land ownership for practising African spirituality. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sacred sites such as rivers, oceans, forests and mountains, play a crucial role, yet these have often been privatised by foreign invaders. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Land ownership is now wielded as a tool to suppress, marginalise, and exclude native Africans from accessing their ancestral and spiritual grounds, which are intrinsic to their identity. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Most importantly, the book is solution-oriented. I do not merely diagnose and analyse the problem, but I also present groundbreaking, African-centred solutions aimed at decolonising the minds, spirits, and souls of Africans. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This will empower them to become pioneers of a spiritual and economic revolution for the collective benefit of Indigenous Africans,” Sikhosana said. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also revealed that he is currently working on his next book titled An Economic Programme for Indigenous People. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
