A woman and three-month-old baby have been killed in an accident on the R56 road in Matatiele towards Cerdaville.
According to Department of Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, over 30 other passengers sustained mild to severe injuries.
“The driver lost control of the bus carrying over 40 passengers. Of the injured, 38, 23 were seriously injured, while the others sustained mild injuries. Five passengers escaped unharmed, including both drivers,” said Binqose.
He added that some injured passengers were transferred to Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital for medical care.
“The scene has not yet been finalized as emergency services are still busy extricating evidence to determine the leading cause of the accident. A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Matatiel SAPS for further investigation.”
