In a meeting held by the various authorities in Alfred Nzo District, it was established that impressive progress had been made on the work to ensure water provision to Adelaide and Oliver Tambo Regional Hospital.
This came after Councillor Vukile Mhlelembanathe, Executive Mayor of Alfred Nzo, had given the technical team three working days to resolve the water crisis in this hospital.
According to Alfred Nzo District Municipality spokesperson, Lixolile Petela, water was running smoothly, even though the demand for water relatively exceeded supply, due to a burst pipe around the area, and constant insufficient reservoir capacity in the hospital.
“The meeting resolved that, while the water was running smoothly, a further intervention was needed to increase the capacity of the reservoirs to prevent future interruptions,” said Petela.
He added that the meeting exposed that the backlog on laundry services within the hospital continues to be a problem, and laundry is still taken to nearby hospitals to assist in addressing the backlog. According to Petela, the Department of Health is working 24/7 to address the backlog.
Mhlelembana said that he wished to assure Alfred Nzo District residents that government, and all stakeholders, are working 24/7 to ensure an amicable resolution to the water issue and the prevention of any re-occurrence in the future.
“We are happy with the progress made thus far, but are still concerned with the backlog on laundry services that continues to affect the delivery of primary and specialised health care in the facility,” said Mhlelembana.
He said that they are going to work with the hospital board, management, technical team and Winnie Madikizela Mandela Local Municipality, to ensure the continued smooth running of the facility.
