Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi SC has been re-elected unopposed for another two-year term as chairperson of Walter Sisulu University (WSU) council, effective November 29.

The news of his election was announced by WSU registrar, Dr Lulamile Ntonzima, in line with Section 11(4) of the WSU statute of 2014, which stipulates that the chairperson of council is elected to the office for a period of two years.

Ngcukaitobi was first elected as chairperson of WSU Council for a term beginning on November 29, 2020.

His re-election follows the October 7 council meeting, where Ntonzima presented a governance report requesting clearance to initiate the election process for WSU’s chairperson of council, which was granted.

Ngcukaitobi was nominated unopposed in response to a call for nominations to the position.

“It is therefore a pleasure to inform the university community that Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi SC is elected unopposed to serve as WSU chairperson of council from November 29, 2022, until November 29, 2024,” Ntonzima said.

Ngcukaitobi said that he received the news of his re-election as WSU council chair with great honour and humility.

“This university has been at the heart of my professional and personal life. When I had the opportunity to return some three years ago, I appreciated the role and the confidence of the many stakeholders at the university. To be endorsed to play a further role in the developmental path of the university, as chair of council, is not something I take for granted,” Ngcukaitobi said.
