Former Bafana Bafana midfielder, Sibusiso Zuma, has committed himself to assist and contribute in the development of sport, particularly soccer in Qina Village in Centane.

He made his remarks during the launch of Uyinene Mrwetyana Football Club at Qina Village in Centane on June 17.

The event was hosted by Uyinene Mrwetyana Foundation and everyone around the villages in Centane was in attendance. Various government departments were also part of the event.

During the event, Zuma, who was invited as a motivational speaker, encouraged the youth of Qina Village to participate in any sporting code with great numbers and stay away from drugs and alcohol.

“If you have a dream of becoming a soccer star one day, you need to stay away from drugs and alcohol, and focus on football,” said Zuma.

He said that in rural areas there are many young people who are talented in sport but in some cases have killed their talent by using drugs.

Then, other times they lack a proper sports structure that can assist them in developing their talents so that they can be professional players soon.

To avoid those challenges, Zuma urged parents, school teachers and local sports structures to work together to help the youth to focus on sport and stay disciplined.

He concluded by saying that he was committing himself to work hand in hand with the Uyinene Mrwetyana Foundation to develop Uyinene Mrwetyana Football Club players.

Zuma will contribute in Uyinene Mrwetyana Football Club by hosting coach clinics and other football related matters whenever the foundation has called him to do so.

The parents of the late Uyinene, who was a student at University of Cape Town before she was brutally killed in a Post Office in Cape Town, said that the soccer team that they have launched will be open to u/10 to u/13 and u/15.

By focusing on these age groups, the foundation aims at trying to keep the youth busy with sport and stay far away from drugs.

Her parents, Noma and Philip, highlighted that whenever they host games, they will also have gender-based violence awareness to educate the youth.
