Cashbuild has given eight schools in Bizana a total of R120 000 in building material vouchers, to help them upgrade their premises.
The eight schools in Bizana, Eastern Cape, were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. Each school received a Cashbuild building materials voucher to the value of R15 000, which they can use for any repairs or improvements needed for their school buildings or grounds.
The vouchers were handed out at the Art-at-Heart ceremony at the refurbished Cashbuild Bizana store on April 18.
The children from the winning schools entertained everyone with singing, cultural dancing and theatrical performances during the ceremony.
The schools that benefited from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations are St Theresa Primary School, Didi Senior Primary School, Mlambondaba Senior Primary School, Jama Senior Primary School, St Patrick’s Junior Primary School, Vuyisile Abram Vatsha Memorial College, Vuyisile Junior Secondary School and Yange Junior Primary School.
“With this voucher we would like to renovate all our learners’ toilets, as well as tile the grade seven classrooms,” said Bukiwe Mgwetyana, St Patrick’s Junior Primary School principal.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition required learners from each school to submit their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork will be on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years. All artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named.
Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver, and bronze certificates for first, second and third places respectively. The Manager’s Choice, and the overall winner of the artwork competition, was awarded to a learner from Didi Primary School.
This award was announced on the day and the winning learner received a backpack with stationery and a trophy.
The winner was also given the honour of officially opening the new store.
