Bongeka Dingela (41), accused of assaulting and murdering her two-year-old son, Oyena Dingela, by setting him on fire, is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday, July 17, for a formal bail application.

As previously reported by the Mthatha Express, Police spokesperson, Lt Col Siphokazi Mawisa, confirmed that on Monday, July 8, at approximately 22:00, police were alerted by community members about a 41-year-old mother who had assaulted and set her son on fire.
Mawisa said, upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a 2-year-old boy who had been assaulted and burned to death.
“It is alleged that the mother attacked her child in front of her 7-year-old daughter, who then alerted the community,” Mawisa said.
She explained that after the ordeal, the daughter is now in the custody of a family member.
