A RADIO presenter from Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM), Bongani Khuzani, known as KFB, came home with his third award, as he was awarded by Eastern Cape Hustler’s Awards, held in East London recently.
Khuzani is from Luyengweni locality in Mount Frere, but residing in Mthatha.
“I obtained my first award in 2021 from Live Your Dream South African Youth Awards (LYD) as the Best Radio Presenter; I got the second one in 2022 from Mzantsi Arts and Media Awards (MAMA) also as the Best Radio Presenter, but unfortunately I received only a certificate due to some certain problems.
“I was very happy when I received another award for Media & Journalism 2023 in the Eastern Cape Hustlers Award, last week,” said Khuzani.
He added that it was painful that he celebrated these awards in the absence of his parents, and the woman, Matefi Mehlwana, who also adopted him after he passed matric, is also no more.
Narrating his story he said that after he passed matric, he did not manage to go to tertiary level due to financial problems.
“I wanted to do journalism but there was no way that I could continue. I was then adopted by a Mehlwana with whom I was renting in her homestead when I was doing matric. I then managed to continue to further my studies in Walter Sisulu University in East London.”
Khuzani added that he ended up doing broadcasting instead of journalism. According to him, he went to do his in-service training at Kanya Community Radio in Butterworth.
He said that he got an opportunity to join Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM) as a music compiler.
“I was lucky because I was given a chance to be a radio presenter until today. My journey was not easy at all, but I thank God because these awards show me that he cares about me. I never thought I would make it in East London, but due to the support I received from my friends and listeners, I made it.”
