A collaboration between various units in the SAPS (TRT, East London K9 and flying Squad, Mdantsane K9 and Flying Squad, Crime Intelligence and SAPS Buffalo Flats detectives) arrested two suspects allegedly involved in an attempted cash-in-transit and armed robbery which took place on February 26.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Hazel Mqala information received was that the suspects were on their way on the R72 driving in two vehicles, a Toyota Quantum and VW Polo.
She said that it was also alleged that they were going to commit another crime.
“The vehicle was spotted at Kyser’s Beach turn off, Kids beach. As police tactically approached the vehicles, they were met with gunfire and some suspects ran into the thick bushes. Police returned fire and two suspects sustained injuries while one was arrested with no injuries, on February 28, 2024, at about 00:45.
” The three suspects aged between 32 and 37 years old were apprehended and detained on charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Additional charges may be added at a later stage,” said Mqala.
She confirmed that two 9mm pistols, 17 rounds of ammunition and two cellphones were also recovered.
They are expected to appear in court soon.
