Spokesperson for the Amathole District Municipality, Nonceba Madikizela-Vuso, died in a car accident.

The Amathole District Municipality political and administrative leaderships expressed their deep sorrow and sadness at the tragic and unexpected passing of Nonceba Madikizela-Vuso, who served as the spokesperson for this municipality.

Madikizela-Vuso was involved in a car accident on the R72 route nearby the Chalumna Bridge by Sobeliti Village under the Buffalo City Metro Municipality, last week.

Municipal Manager for Amathike District Municipality (ADM), Bhekisisa Mthembu, said both ADM’s political and administration leadership extend their deep and heartfelt condolences to the Vuso family and their loved ones.

“Our thoughts and our prayers are with her family, friends and loved ones during this very difficult time of great grief. We do not have words enough to express our shock and sadness at her untimely passing,” said Mthembu.

He described Madikizela-Vuso as someone who was passionate about her job.

One of the reporters from Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM), Asanda Maliwa, said he had worked with her for a long time.

Ever since I worked in this industry I never had a problem with her, because she was always giving me all the information I wanted. She never undermined the journalists, no matter if you are coming from the local media she would treat you in a good way that make you feel that you are also a journalist.

Spokesperson of the Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose, said that it is alleged that in the incident that Vuso was travelling with her friend when this accident happened.

“Their car was travelling in the same direction as the truck they collided with. Two people in the truck were injured, [and] in the SUV car it was Vuso and her friend.

“She passed on in the accident and lady sustained injuries,” said Binqose.

He confirmed that police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
