SOMILA Gani has signed a four-year contract to be a part of the SAFA Academy.

Somila signed the contract last week.

The contract states that SAFA will cover everything including clothes, food, school fees, medicals, transport to school and training, etc.

She is expected to join the SAFA Academy early next year, in January 2025, in Johannesburg.

Somila is currently the only player from the Eastern Cape who is part of the academy.

The Academy consists of a group of players identified through the Talent Development Scheme (TDs) Interprovincial Tournament and the U/15 National Tournament in August 2024.

In October this year Somila was selected to be part of the South African U/15 girls’ squad that travelled to Namibia to represent South Africa at the CAF African Schools Championship held between October 8 and 13 in Namibia, and the South African girls won the tournament.

During the tournament, Somila scored six goals and was named player of the tournament against Eswatini after scoring a hat trick in their 4-0 win.

Somila is currently in Grade 9 at Nozulu Senior Secondary School in the Ngangelizwe location, Mthatha.

She plays for Coastal Ladies’ FC competing in the Eastern Cape Sasol League.
