The Convener for the South African Civic Organisation (SANCO) sub-region of King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, Makhosandile Majeke, confirmed that they hosted a cleaning campaign in the Central Business District (CBD) of Mthatha, last week.

He said that this was their first programme and will be followed by many programmes they would be hosting.

After we sat down as the members of SANCO, we took a decision to work hand-in-hand with the municipality by assisting where we can. We then decided to start by cleaning our town.

He added that even though they started in the town, their intention is to go to and clean in the wards of this municipality.

“What made us start this initiative is because of the partnership that we have with this municipality.

“As the SANCO members we are always willing to assist where we can, because we are also community members.”

Majeke confirmed that some of the programmes they will be helping government by fighting include the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) against Women and Children.

According to him, they will also make sure that they visit shops that are in the rural areas to check whether the owners are selling stuff that is in good condition, or not.
