THE South African Football Association (SAFA) in the Eastern Cape has announced two important fixtures that will take place before the Sasol League decider at Lady Frere Stadium this Sunday, August 25.

The SAFA office has announced that teams who finished second and third in the Sasol League Coastal Stream and Sasol League Inland Stream will compete against each other in positional play-off games before the decider match.

This means that the team that finished second in the Inland Stream will play against the team that finished in the same position in the Coastal Stream, and the winner will take third position in the overall Eastern Cape Sasol League provincial log standings.

The first fixture of the day in the positional play-offs will see Bay Stars FC from Gqeberha, who finished their season in third in the Coastal Stream, play against Mthatha side Ayakha Stars FC, who finished in the same position in the Inland Stream. Their game is expected to start at 10:00 at Lady Frere Stadium.

The following fixture, at 12:00 at the same venue, will be between the two teams who finished second in their respective streams. Eastern Cape Peace Lovers FC from Ngcobo, who finished second in the Inland Stream, will play against Nav Galaxy Ladies FC, who finished in the same position in the Coastal Stream.

After these games, the big fixture between the champions of the Coastal Stream, Sophakama Ladies FC from Gqeberha and Executive Ladies from Ntabankulu in the Alfred Nzo area, will take place. They will battle in the Eastern Cape Sasol League decider, and the winner will receive a trophy, gold medals, and the opportunity to represent the province in the national promotion play-offs.

This big game is expected to start at 15:00, and SAFA has confirmed that all three games will be live streamed through the association’s Facebook page.

One of the members of SAFA, Sikelela Mtangayi, has urged all teams to arrive on time to avoid delays. Clubs are reminded to follow association rules as this event is part of the season. Dangerous weapons and alcohol are not allowed near the venue where the games will be taking place this weekend.

Dignitaries, particularly from the association, are expected to embrace the occasion as they wrap up the Sasol League 2024 season.
