A student from Walter Sisulu University and radio presenter at Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM) in Mthatha, Inga Mkalali (19), is soaring to new heights as one of the presenters in Season 7 of The Art Centre Show on Mpumakapa TV.

The show focuses on showcasing talent and the beauty of the province by profiling creatives and their work. Mkalali, originally from Sihlabeni locality in Ngqamakhwe, currently resides in Mthatha.

Despite his busy schedule with the show, he is continuing his Bachelor of Education degree at Walter Sisulu University (WSU), while also studying Public Relations part-time at Must Graduate Academy.

He shared that the show frequently features outside broadcasts, visiting various art centres across the province.

According to him, The Art Centre Show airs on Mpumakapa TV, DSTV Channel 260, and is produced by Masithembe Vena with the goal of nurturing young talent and providing a platform for them to showcase their work.

“I have always dreamed of being on this show since last year, and in February, God answered my prayers. My contract started this month (March 2025) after two months as a radio presenter at Inako FM. I also joined one of the biggest community radio stations in the country, Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM) in Mthatha, which has helped prepare me for this journey,” said Mkalali.

He added that his goal in joining the show is to entertain, educate, and inform viewers while giving other creatives the opportunity to showcase their work, in line with the show’s mission.

“When I was given this opportunity, it felt like a dream come true because I have always wanted to see myself on TV. I never thought God would answer my prayers so quickly. What excites me the most is that I get to tell the stories of my own province. I didn’t have to move to Johannesburg to make my dream a reality — this shows that the entertainment industry in the Eastern Cape is truly growing.”

In addition to his TV and radio career, Mkalali was recently crowned Mr BCM King 2024/25 in East London and also won the Public Choice title, a testament to the public’s belief in his potential. He encourages people to start their own businesses and pursue short courses or workshops to equip themselves with valuable knowledge and skills for success.
