Sajonisi Woods Forum chairperson, Andile
Mzungule has confirmed that the total shutdown in Port St Johns town will continue today, October 13.

Mzungule said that they will withdraw the shutdown following proof of resignation of the Port St Johns Mayor, Councilor Nomvuzo Mlombile-Cingo and Portfolio Head for Engineering and Planning Services, Councilor Gcina Tshotho.

“All access roads have been closed. No one is allowed to enter or leave PSJ. Even the shops
are still closed because no one is allowed to enter our town until we get what
we want,” said Mzungule.

He added that the forum took the decision based on the fact that they believed that Mlombile-Cingo and Tshotho had failed them.

“We took
this decision after the MEC for CoGTA said that even the schools that are nearby Port
St Johns, more especially Port St Johns High are also affected.”

Department of Education spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima said that they are aware of the situation.

“This is not affecting our schools only, but the community at large. Shops in the town are also affected. We do not want to put the lives of our learners and
teachers at risk,” said Mtima.
