A Dutch Tourist who was scammed out of thousands of rand while on holiday in South Africa, has shared on social media a video of the incident in a quest to find information on the perpetrators.

Frans MacLean was on holiday in South Africa in September last year, when three men scammed him out of R127 000 at an ATM in Northcrest, Mthatha.

In the video it can be clearly seen how the three men, of which one was wearing a uniform with reflective stripes similar to that of a municipal worker, stands with him at the ATM pretending to assist him. This happened on September 29 last year, and since then no arrests have yet been made.

MacLean asked Mthatha Express to share the video in an attempt to see if anyone can identify the men. Mthatha Police Spokesperson, warrant officer Majola Nkohli, confirmed that Mthatha Express can share the video. MacLean said anyone with information can report it to their nearest police station or contact Col. John Devan, station commander at the Madeira Police Station.

According to a reliable source, this is not an isolated incident and this has happened to a number of tourists to Mthatha. Some of these scammers claim to be municipal workers.
