Learners from two senior secondary schools in Mthatha benefited from various workshops on coding computer literacy, job readiness and maths, recently.

Learners who benefited from this programme were Grade 12 learners from Jongintaba Senior Secondary School and Chief NZ Mtikrakra Senior Secondary School in Mthatha.

This was confirmed by the regional co-ordinator for Tangible Africa, and the founder of Nkosikazi Nogcinile Mtikrakra foundation, Prince Phikolomzi Mtikrakra.

He said they were working with different organisations in order to bring change to their community.

“I am running a variety of programmes; one of them is Coding and Programming whereby the learners use cellphones and puzzles to learn because we are now in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“In this programme we worked with the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Gqeberha and Tangible Africa,” said Mtikrakra.

He confirmed that they had equipped Grade 12 learners with social skills, where they taught them about job readiness, computer skills and assisted them in maths.

According to him, they started this initiative in February and finished it in May 2023. Mtikrakra confirmed that there are many schools who have indicated that they are also interested in the programme.

“I am also running a rowing programme where I teach them rowing and swimming. We are in partnership with Rowing South Africa and Mthatha Health Club. In this programme we are currently working with Mthatha High School, Jongintaba Senior Secondary School and Dalindyebo Senior Secondary School.”

According to him, they are trying to shift these learners in the right direction so that they are equipped to know what to do in future.
