The intelligence-driven operation by the East London Tactical Response Team (TRT) confiscated an unlicensed firearm and arrested a 49-year-old man at a farm in Butterworth on Saturday evening , July 15.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, on Saturday evening, July 15, as part of crime prevention strategies that the SAPS came up with to decrease crime, members from the EAST London TRT made way to a farm in Butterworth.
“In the premises, police proceeded to a homestead, where they arrested the suspect, who was in possession of a 9mm Norinco with live rounds of ammunition and a magazine.
“He was arrested and charged with possession of a unlicensed firearm and ammunition, the suspect will be appearing at the Butterworth Magistrate Court on Monday, July 17,” said Mawisa.
