Police confirmed that a 32-year-old man died after violence broke out between two groups of young men at the Lurholweni location in the Wild Coast Sun in Mbizana with several damages to people’s properties over the weekend.

According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, the deceased’s body was found lying with multiple injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

“Two homesteads were damaged, of which one was set alight,” said Nkohli.

“Police opened a case of murder, arson, malicious damage to property and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.”

Nkohli added that police are investigating these cases, and arrests are imminent.

According to a reliable source, the fight allegedly broke out between male learners from Marina High School and Vulindlela Comprehensive School, who are the Amazawa initiates and Amaxhosa initiates from eMampondweni.

Nkohli could not confirm if the fight happened between two groups of learners from two different local high schools.

Spokesperson for the Department of Education, Mali Mtima, said that although this incident involved learners, it did not happen on the school’s premises.

“Due to this fight, some learners are not going to school because they fear for their lives,” said Mtima.

“We do not have much information about this so far, but we are invited to the meeting that has been called by the local traditional leader to try to get a solution on this by Friday.”
