The community of Lusikisiki and neighbouring areas are targeted as the main beneficiaries of a multimillion Rand project, scheduled to be unveiled at the St Elizabeth Hospital in Lusikisiki on October 8.
According to Acting Manager of Communication from the Department of Health, Yonela Dekeda, the MEC for Health Nomakhosazana Meth will officially open infrastructure developments aimed at improving access to health services for the people of Ingquza Hill Local Municipality.
“The hospital has received a R246 Million infrastructure upgrading, which includes a 64 bedded Pediatric Unit with the state of the art equipment, laundry services and the newly built Lilitha Nursing College. The Lusikisiki Campus is one of the five main campuses of the college around the province,” said Dekeda.
She added that the refurbishment forms part of revitalising this hospital into a well-equipped modern health facility.
Dekeda said the project also includes a Helicopter stop for Emergency Medical Services landing and a covered parking area.
“St Elizabeth hospital is a three hundred bedded regional hospital, situated in Lusikisiki which serves a population of more than 300 000 people in and around OR Tambo district Municipality.”
