Police have opened an inquest docket after a 10-year-old boy was recovered by local community members floating in the Cicira river near Drayini locality in Slovo Park, Mthatha.
According to police reports, the minor drowned while swimming with his friends on Monday, October 3 at about 12:00.
“Mthatha Search and Rescue Unit immediately started the search at about 17:00, however due to poor lighting the search was called off later in the evening,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Kaya Matola-Mvanyashe.

The search resumed on Tuesday, October 4.
“The boy’s body was recovered yesterday at 16:00. No foul play is suspected and there were no injuries,” said Matola-Mvanyashe.
