FROM three boxers who were representing Mnquma in the Isizwe Boxing Promotions professional tournament, which took place at Butterworth Hall, only one boxer had positive results over the weekend.

Asandiswa Nxokwana from Centane, Bathandwa Mendela from Butterworth, and Masibulele Mbumba from Butterworth, were the boxers representing Mnquma in a seven-bout tournament held at Butterworth Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The event began with a fight between Lonwabo Velile from Cala and Loyiso Kewuti from Eugie, competing in the Lightweight division in a four-round bout. However, the fight did not last long as Velile knocked out Kewuti in the first round.

The second fight was between Masibulele Mbumba from Butterworth and Lutho Mbuku from Mhlontlo, competing in the Welterweight division in a four-round match. Mbumba started the fight on a positive note, collecting points by throwing good punches at Mbuku until the end of the first round. In the second round, boxing supporters from Mnquma were hopeful that Mbumba would win the fight as he continued to land significant punches. However, towards the end of the round, Mbuku landed a crucial punch on Mbumba’s face, which disrupted his focus, causing the referee to stop the match.

In the third fight, Xhanti Mjezu from SADA was knocked out in the first round by Avuyile Mpikwa from East London in a Featherweight division four-round bout.

The following fight saw Aphiwe Nxazonke from Amalinde winning on points against Sinako Malilwane from Enoch Mgijima in an INR Bantam division four-round match.

One of the main fights of the tournament was between Bathandwa Mendela from Butterworth and Sivenathi Qwemesha from Mdantsane in the Featherweight division over six rounds. Both boxers were determined to win as they exchanged serious blows from the start until the sixth round. Mendela performed well throughout, collecting points in each round, and was declared the winner by the majority of the judges.

In the main supporting bout, Mawethu Limo from East London defeated Sakhumzi Nziweni from Enyandeni by knockout in the second round of their Bantamweight division six-round match.

In the main bout, Monica Mkandla from Gauteng defeated Asandiswa Nxokwana from Centane on points in an eight-round Bantamweight division match.

Isizwe Boxing Promotions promoter, Ntsikayesizwe Sigcawu, thanked all the boxers who participated in the event and expressed gratitude to the boxing supporters for their support.
