BATHANDWA Mendela from Zanethemba Boxing Club in Butterworth aims to secure another victory when he faces Sonke Komeni at King Hintsa TVET College on March 15.

These boxers are set to exchange blows in a highly anticipated junior lightweight division bout at an event hosted by Isizwe Boxing Promotions, in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, next week.

Last week, Mendela made it clear that he is ready to take on Komeni, a boxer from Cumakala, and claimed to have identified some key weaknesses in his opponent.

“I watched a recent fight of Sonke Komeni and noticed he can’t take punches, but I won’t speak too much about it. Let’s wait for match day when everything will unfold in the ring,” said Mendela.

He made these remarks while training for the upcoming fight and urged all his supporters to come out in large numbers to support the event.

Mendela is known for his powerful punches, and if Komeni cannot withstand heavy punches, he will struggle to last four rounds in the match.

Late last year, in Butterworth Town Hall, Mendela defeated Sivenathi Qwemesha on points in a boxing event hosted by Isizwe Boxing Promotions. Now, he aims to continue his winning streak by beating Komeni.

During the event, nine fights are expected to take place, with the main bout between Siseko Makeleni, the Eastern Cape champion, and Hlumelo Gingxana from Buffalo City.

Makeleni hails from OR Tambo, and the entrance fee is R100 for adults and R50 for children.
