“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” This is one of the famous quotes from the late Nelson Mandela that Mbhashe Business Forum invoked as an inspiration that led them to partner with Mbhashe Local Municipality to build a decent home for the destitute Makreqe family.
From Matolweni Locality in Nqadu under Ward 30 of the local municipality, the family received the newly-built and fully-furnished three-bedroom house as part of the month-long goodwill initiatives to observe International Nelson Mandela Day on July 30.
Family representative, Gwemntu Makreqe, thanked the Mbhashe Business Forum and the municipality for the gesture.
Thandolwethu Nolatsho, a businesswoman from Mhlontlo Local Municipality, further pledged to supply the Makreqe family with groceries to the value of R1 500 every month.
“We thank the local business fraternity for working with the municipality. I also welcome the commitment by the business fraternity that they will be embarking on similar goodwill initiatives annually,” said Mbhashe Local Municipality executive mayor Samkelo Janda.
All members of the Makreqe family are unemployed and survive on the disability grant for one family member living with a disability.
