One person has died while 14
others sustained injuries in a collision involving a midi-bus, a truck and a
bakkie this morning.
Spokesperson for Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose,
stated that the midi-bus was travelling towards Matatiele on the R56, with a truck travelling behind it.
He said the truck overtook the midi-bus and
collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota bakkie from Matatiele direction.
“The
bus also slammed into the truck. There were 31 passengers in the bus, 13 were
transported to Taylor Bequest Hospital with serious injuries. The Toyota bakkie had three people – the driver and two passengers,” said Binqose.
According to him the driver of the bakkie was declared dead on the scene, while one passenger sustained slight injuries and the
other passenger was severely injured.
