Zingisile Victor Kakana (39) has been sentenced to life behind bars, plus additional prison terms for the murder of his two girlfriends Pumla Mabindisa (47) and Noluyolo Mpumlwana (36), last year.
According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, Kakana was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the murder of Mabindisa, a life sentence for the premeditated murder of Mpumlwana, five years for possession of an unlicensed firearm, and 15 years for theft of a firearm, after he pleaded guilty in the Maluti Regional Court.
“On December 25, 2021, Kakana shot and killed his girlfriend, Constable Mabindisa, who was attached to Cerdaville Police Station with her service pistol. He then left her corpse in her residence and went to Maluti to his other girlfriend, Mpumlwana. He confessed to her about killing Mabindisa. Mpumlwana wanted to report him to the police for criminal conduct, which led him to murder her as well,” said Mgolodela.
The Mbizana-based Serious Organised Crime investigation of the Hawks kept on Kakana’s trial until his apprehension on February 3, 2022.
“He was remanded in custody for the duration of his trial and convicted on October 31, 2022,” said Mgolodela.
