An intelligence driven operation by members from Lusikisiki Public Order Policing (POPS) led to the recovery of a second illegal firearm in Lusikisiki within six days, and the sixth one for the OR Tambo District within the same period.

On Saturday, October 14 around 11:00, members operationalised an intelligence information about a man in a white VW Amarok who was said to be in possession of an illegal firearm, and was allegedly parked outside a tavern at Mcobothini locality in Lusikisiki.

“Moments later, members pounced on the unsuspecting man, and on searching his bakkie  police found a 9mm pistol without a magazine and he had no license to possess the firearm,” Captain Welile Matyolo of SAPS said.

A 43-year-old man was arrested, and he is due to appear in the Lusikisiki magistrate’s court on Monday, October 16, to face a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm.

Acting OR Tambo District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntandane commended members for their excellent work ethics.  ” This illegal firearm brings a total to six firearms that were confiscated in the district between Monday to Saturday. We are now short of one firearm to make it seven in a week, “concluded Brig Ntandane.
