Local Ayakha Stars Ladies’ goalkeeper, Mpho “Kwasa” Nonkondlo, recently attended a Women’s Summit in Johannesburg, where she rubbed shoulders with some of the cream of the crop in women’s sport.
“The summit was very fruitful because the information I got there will assist me and my teammates in shaping our lives and understand the importance of sport,” said Nonkondlo.
“The programme was teaching us mostly about life after football as women make moves in sport.
”The programme, which was organised by Momentum and held at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, was attended by different sports experts and enthusiasts from across the globe, namely sports analyst, Jessica Nkomo, who is the founder of Bokamoso Sport Agency, former Banyana Banyana star, Amanda Dlamini and Springbok women’s rugby prop, Babalwa Latsha.
Professional sports psychologist, Dr Kirsten Van Heerden, was also among the guests, including one of the professors from Harvard Business School, Professor Anita Elberse.
“The summit also taught us about the importance of networking, and about proposals for sponsorships, the gender pay gap, creating professional bios and challenges we are facing as female players in South Africa.”
“My main objective for now is to grow my game. Then hopefully when the time is right I will move to better places.”
The summit was held between Monday, August 7 and Thursday, August 10.
