The director for Bhayi Holdings PTY ltd, Inga Qeja, confirmed that they had started a learnership programme with the aim of assisting young people, and to fight unemployment in Tsolo and surrounding areas.

Ncelashe said that in this programme they are teaching young people about poultry farming, and it will take eight months, starting from next month (June) until February next year.

He confirmed that the attendees would also receive a stipend.

“This programme is accredited by Agriculture Sector Education (AgriSeta) and we are partnering with Omhlakoane Agriculture. So far we have received about 100 applications; we were targeting young people from Tsolo, but even people from Lusikisiki and other areas are willing to take part,” said Ncelashe.

He said that they are trying to develop young people so that they have skills. According to him, if the attendees did not drop out, they are interested in continuing with this programme next year. He confirmed that it is not their first time to assist young people.

“We have hosted a programme called Mixed Farming where we were also assisting young people. We are aiming to inspire young people to use agriculture to fight poverty. We plough vegetables and supply shops in the Mhlontlo Local Municipality and surrounding areas.”

He said that youth should know that instead of leaving their homes to look for jobs, they could rather use land in order to put food on the table.

“We must teach our young people about what they know, instead of educating them about things that they do not even know; teaching them about agriculture surely is easy for them to learn because you are talking about what they know.”
