The 2022 National FNB Festival champions, Mthatha FNB Ladies, have already started their preparations ahead of this year’s tournament.
Currently the u/15 squad consists of 20 talented young players and the final squad is expected to depart to Gauteng on September 30.
The players are from Commodos Ladies, Coastal Ladies, Ayakha Stars and Horse Fire Ladies.
OR Tambo Region is currently among the best regions with the most talented young female footballers across the country.
Women’s football has grown to another level in rural areas under the OR Tambo Municipality.
Even though they are from disadvantaged backgrounds, the girls’ performance and dedication proves that nothing is impossible to achieve.
Last year the u/15 girls broke the record, winning the tournament for the sixth time, by beating Thohoyandou Ladies FC by one goal to nil by the end of the match.
The head coach, Vuyolwethu Mhlathi, said they are eyeing the title for the seventh time.
The FNB tournament provided them with hope and made them believe in their abilities.
