A delegation from Mpumalanga’s Nkomazi Local Municipality had nothing but praise for King Sabata (KSD) Local Municipality’s shift and overtime management systems, after having spent two days as part of its benchmarking exercise with local municipal authorities.
Nkomazi municipality mayoral committee member (MMC) responsible for corporate services, Sipho Sibiya, said that the visit to KSD came after the local municipality had challenges with its work shift and danger allowance policies and systems, which consumed a large chunk of their budget.
“As a council we had some challenges regarding work shifts and danger allowance, which were consuming a lot of our budget and compromising service delivery.
Upon doing research on how to deal with the problem, we came across KSD municipality as one of the municipalities that were managing the problem very well, which led to the benchmarking visit,” said Sibiya.
He further described their engagement with KSD municipal authorities as valuable and meaningful, adding that they were going back to Mpumalanga with a package that they will implement in Nkomazi Local Municipality.
“We have extended a leaf to the KSD municipality for them to also come and learn about what we are doing well as Nkomazi municipality, such as audit outcomes improvement.
The visit was a start of, hopefully, a long-term partnership between the two municipalities,” added Sibiya.
KSD corporate services MMC, Nombulelo Sibeko, said that the local municipality was humbled at being used as a benchmark, adding that this proved that there are things they were excelling in.
“The KSD municipality will benefit from the benchmarking visit by the Nkomazi Local Municipality, which we consider as forging of a long-term partnership with them,” said Sibeko.
The Nkomazi municipality delegation was in KSD on June 14 and 15.
Visits to tourist attractions and development site visits were undertaken at the conclusion of the two-day meeting.
